The sound of music has changed as society has changed over the years, thus the change in the sound of music is really a reflection of our cultural evolution. … With time, more musical instruments were developed and played together which resulted in more sophisticated and complex sounds being produced.
Even more change came when technology was introduced creating platforms that created sounds and beats that could be easily added to a song with its downloaded applications.
Real instrumentalization became a competition between original sound and created technology of sounds and beats.
Lyrics have also changed.
Popular music has changed over the years, and the music of 2019 is noticeably different from the music of the 1960s or 1970s. But it is not just the music that changed, but also the lyrics. Data scientists at Lawrence Technological University in Michigan used quantitative analytics to study the change in lyrics of popular music over seven decades, from the 1950s to 2016. The results showed that the expression of anger and sadness in popular music has increased gradually over time, while the expression of joy has declined.
How About Christian Music?
Music is one of the first things people notice when they go to a church service. What is the style? Are there instruments? What is your choice of songs? These exert great influence over the congregation. Worship is this important part of service and this important part of service is not randomly arranged. It is the work of a devoted group of people called the music ministry in the congregation.
The Argument Of Hip Hop In Christian Music
Hip hop music, also known as rap music, is a style of music which came into existence in the United States during the mid- 1970s, and became a large part of modern pop culture during the 1980s. It consists of two main components: rapping ( MCing) and DJing ( production and scratching).
According to a poll published by the Pew Research Center in 2008, more than 70 percent of Americans believed that rap had an overall negative impact on society. Some rap and hip-hop songs do indeed glamorize destructive behavior like substance abuse and violence.
Hip hop culture has a bad reputation in some quarters, mostly because of its association with rap. The two have been bundled together with a range of negative connotations: bad language, misogyny, glorifying crime, violence and drug use.
This is primarily why most people feel rap has no place in Christian music. When we think of Christian music we think of praise & worship having a reverence of total respect and honor to the savior.
Conscious awareness of the importance music plays in our lives and the influence it leaves behind is crucial in our growth as a humanity and individually. Each of us must consider and take responsibility for the support we give artists and their creatives. Remembering music creates an undertone of acceptance in our society and our youth are following our lead as adults which influences the future society we can expect.
