Today’s music has truly changed from days gone by; award winning and recognized songwriter whose ghostwriting paved the way for her livelihood for many years in the music industry.
Milliea Taylor Mckinney, not only dances in the field of songwriting she has penned 5 books and is working on a sixth. Her newest book ‘Revealing the truth about the Bible’ will be released at the end of summer. Her contributions to the music industry includes owning her own publishing company record label and once conscious business mentoring the power behind the artist and their responsibility in writing and releasing music that is not only entertaining but respectful and productive to society.
McKinney says; Unless you really understand the responsibility as an artist and the power in music you really should either get the knowledge or just not be involved in music as an artist, in particular songwriters.
Lyrics have an incredible power that touches the heart, mind, and soul. It can change a situation, heal the sick, change or impact a culture, or a society.
Music is so powerful Milliea insists it’s the sixth sense of humanity. It manipulates the heart to think , act and respond to certain song lyrics. It affects the emotions and sets the stage for one’s characteristics that form a person’s personality traits. She goes on to say; studies have proven the power behind music is so astronomical that a mere article could not even begin to touch the power and effect it has on mankind and its society or cultures.
The bottom line is society as a whole needs to rethink what good music sounds like. Millliea says; anybody can put some great sounds, harmonies and beats together to get a good melody but not everyone can write lyrics that truly matter.
“When you hear vulgar content, cussing, and strong degrading content in your songs something is wrong with this picture says McKinney.” Music is supposed to be entertaining, uplifting an escape from the everyday obligations of the world. Modern technology has created a method that takes from the value of a true instrument sound. With techno beats and app programs you can do just about anything to put a song together but here is the problem with that, says Milliea. It is a synthetic sound nothing can ever replace the sound of a real music instrument. Nor can any lyrics build up a society other than wholesome lyrics about true emotions that develop hope, love, inspiration, fun, laughter, tears through growth and experience.
There is no reward in the long run with cultures putting out music that degrades women and brings violence into your living rooms and homes. Songs that chant hate are unacceptable. There is nothing entertaining about violence hate and degrading women in any form. Music industry should be ashamed of what they are allowing and supporting, says McKinney.
The only way the music industry will clean up their act is to establish integrity in their artists, teach and educate the true value of music and to restore the ethics and meaning of true entertainment.
For generations music has shown the trendy sounds and messages that embrace our generations until now McKinney said, you can really feel the darkness in music and lyrics in songs that are cloning and impacting our society as a whole.
The problem is that the whole concept is embraced by what society keeps using as an excuse for freedom of expression. The problem with that is not the freedom but the responsibility to influence someone’s artistry and ideology that influence our youth which are our future.
Most mistakes you will ever make are in our developing years inspired by wrong information and influence. If young people get it wrong, what are they taking with them to the future when they take on the torch and responsibility to influence society with their belief system?
The hope McKinney, now holds is in developing a new and improve seed of hope through her new label Musicology Records. The newest company will pave the way and be the seed of hope for a new way in recording, producing and releasing music for distribution.
The label has a twist says McKinney. It will educate any artist that comes to her label. It’s so important that new artists and even established artists understand their gift and how to use it to make the greatest impact on their audiences.
Audiences in light of understanding how music operates in their lives should not accept anything less from the artist they support.Working together is key at this point, claims McKinney.
She concludes by saying; music truly has the supernatural power to change the world so many artist have tried to convey the very same message for generations but the audiences and the newer artist just are not listening they obviously are lost in the trendy sounds, beats, and marketable songs that get money in their pockets and not the message of hope in the hearts of those listening.
It saddens my heart that hard working individuals are investing hard earned money to those who truly do not care nor consider the after effect on the masses that support the music and entertainment industry.
